I watched loudQUIETloud last night. Now I want to re-complete my Pixies collection for the umpteenth time.
Thinking about it, that's a band that whose back catalog could definitely use the "Deluxe Edition" treatment. There's tons of odds and ends by them floating around.

God, yes. Some of their albums (Trompe Le Monde, I'm looking at you...) definitely suffer from "early 90's CD syndrome".

Would that be "numerous CD singles resulting in about 20 b-sides"?

Hah, well, there is that. But I was mostly referring to the fact that lots and lots of early CDs are totally shitty. Some are quiet, some are thin, etc... Of course, CDs today aren't really much better because they try to push the volume limit too high. But look at the Beatles catalog. All of the CD releases of their albums came out in the early 90s, and they are pretty inferior to the vinyl releases because people didn't really know how to really take advantage of the CD medium at the time, especially when pulling from older analog stuff.
Re-releases not only give the chance for bonus material, but also for a much more consistent and better sound.

Ah yes.
My Bloody Valentine needs a similar treatment.

"it's one of the quitest CDs (in terms of RMS level) even in a relatively "quiet" period of CD mastering."First off, for many music fans, the "Loveless" album from My Bloody Valentine is one of the hallmarks of a "huge" sounding record. It is a tremendous wall of sound. The punchline is that it is one of the quietest CDs (in terms of RMS level) even in a relatively "quiet" period of CD mastering. One could easily get another 4 dB of volume out of this CD without even beginning to limit the peaks.
