#1261055 I Know I Know Ya All Wanna Keep Your Money Local...But At What Cost?

Posted by HNIC on 13 September 2014 - 03:05 AM

Tonight while doing the standard Door Persons Duties of Checking ID, making sure both patrons & staff were safe and secure, ya know and Protecting the Owners Liquor License, sort of a shitty job, you have to make judgement calls on aggressive behavior & over intoxicated customers...all while being nice. Sounds easy...its not. A group of 4 intoxicated prospective clients approached the door. They already were acting belligerent when asked for their ID, proceed to dump their garbage onto the sidewalk in front of myself & Collin (my fellow doorguy & stand up dude). When asked nicely to pick it up one of the Guys in the group says "it wasnt us". At this point Collin informs him he just watched him do it and just pick it up...its no big deal. Bro starts freaking out on me "whatta ya gonna do, bounce me, come on" bumping up into my chest...Collin immediately flanks him and we inform him yeah...thats exactly what we are gonna do. Denied Entry...thats, that. Or so we think. I go to throw another patron out for creeping on girls and get him problem free out of the building when I get called over by Collin. In my absence from the door he was approached by the owner of Casey Moores and told we were not allowed to deny entry to ANYONE unless the SWING AT US FIRST!!! That is right...we are not allowed to protect the staff or customers of the establishment or ourselves unless WE ARE FIRST ASSAULTED!?!? We laugh it off as insane and go about our business.A few minutes later I am told to switch my post by the head of Security. I inquire whats up and I am informed he has to fire Collin per word of the owner as Collin "Cost Casey Moores Money". Thats right Collin was fired for DOING HIS JOB!?! When I hear this I immediately inform him that Collin was backing me up and that I will not stand for it and will quit in his place to save his job...I'm told that is not an option and that Collin will be fired regardless. The only Moral thing to do was quit in solidarity with Collin, which may not be the brightest thing to do...cuz ya, I sorta need that little bit of money while I get my business off the ground. Oh well...standing for the right thing is sometimes the most important currency.

The Long & Short of It, If You Support Workers Rights of ANY sort, Moral Values & Integrity you will think LONG & HARD about where you put your money in this community. If you just need to hook up with Hipster Witches & bang dudes with Neck Tattoos while trying to make your Cocaine connection...then by all means. Sadly we all know what most of you will do...

#1192109 Metal. Its The New Shoe Gaze. Except We Drink & Have Fun!

FUCK The FACTS:
The basics are still made of furious grindcore, that is for sure, but rocking and rolling riffs, screeching and screaming noise, engulfing melodics and slothlike, crushing doom ensure an unparallelled depth and variation in the grind genre. The utterly twisted and somewhat disturbing screams by female vocalist Mel are the icing on the cake. For fans of Brutal Truth and people who cannot take Cephalic Carnage seriously,

SORROWER:
Why tread new ground when you can trample it...and thats just what PHX Grind/Punk band do...traveling frequently on DIY tours, printing their own merch (which pokes fun at Scion & corporate metal) and playing their own shows on their terms. This show finds them on a rare venue show which will be sure to crush skulls and question authority.

SEAS WILL RISE:
The sea is an ever-changing entity. One moment it’s churning and relentless, the next tranquil. Peaceful. Seas Will Rise is equally varied. From D-beat to doom-laden sludge, Seas Will Rise’s is broad enough to keep listeners interested through its tenure.

TERRITORY:
Tucsons Territorys sound is dark with moments of full blown metal breakdowns a la vintage Ringworm or Integrity... oh and the riffs, which pretty much provoke anyone to head-bang and trash the room.

HORSE HEAD:
Classified as a, “…sweetly mysterious blend of Doom, Thrash, and Black Metal complimented by harmonious and ethereal bridges…”. Definite newcomers to keep your eyes on.

#1188545 NEGATIVE APPROACH

Feb. 6th @ 910 Live

NEGATIVE APPROACH-
Negative Approach is an American hardcore punk band, formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1981. The band is considered among the pioneers of hardcore punk, particularly in the Midwest region. Like most hardcore bands, Negative Approach was little known in its day outside of its hometown. It is now idolized in the Detroit rock underground and the punk subculture, considered to be one of the elite bands of the "old school" era, and continues to be influential.Negative Approach initially broke up in 1984 with singer John Brannon moving onto Laughing Hyenas, and later Easy Action, but the band has reformed as of 2006 and continues to tour sporadically. Negative Approach's musical style was based on Detroit proto-punk/rock & roll icons The StoogesOf The Stooges' guitarist Ron Asheton, John Brannon said, "So much of what NA stands for; our sound and lyrics were based on the music which he helped to create." NA were also influenced by high-octane British punk rock (especially Discharge) and Oi! music (Blitz, 4-Skins, et al.), although from the start their sound and demeanor were considerably more aggressive and brutal than that of their influences. NA's brand of hardcore was savage and nihilistic, exuding frustration, pessimism and rage. This was personified in the band's vocalist John Brannon, an intimidating and intense man with a piercing stare and belligerent attitude. His vocal style and stage presence set the standard for those that followed.

GEHENNA-
Also known as The Infamous Gehenna. The band calls its style "negative hardcore", an extreme brand of hardcore with raw black metal and blasts of power violence infused with tortured nihilism. GEHENNA is the sound of endless warfare. Of Pain. Of drugs. Of violence. This is not for the weak.

GAY KISS-
Playing dirty, fast hardcore, vicious, intelligently structured and, although aggressive, bleed none of that gross alpha-male blood of machismo hardcore. Hailing from Tempe, AZ they have bludgeoned ears and skulls from coast to coast...what has your band done?

#1002846 What's so great about Phoenix, anyway?

Posted by HNIC on 28 January 2011 - 03:14 PM

waist-deep sea of phonies to get to it. In AZ, you're safe from these people if you stay out of Scottsdale.

Absolutely despise this sentiment, areas of town are what you make them. I have never been happier than living in Scottsdale for the past 5 years, great food close by (and delivery and dare I say it more open than in Downtown Phoenix), a few good bars, supermarkets, mom & pop shops, good trails parks and canals to ride / run on...oh and wait we HAVE a dog park, one of the better ones in the valley. And lemme tell ya, waist - deep - in - a - sea - of - phonies...!?!? That is easily how any given First friday / Art Walk can feel to an outsider too, I mean just instead of spot the fake "millionaire" we can play "Hipster Or Hobo".
