The Fisher Price was still going when I got my J. Geils Band record. My Mom heard my brother and I listening to the last track, "Piss on the Wall" and she came in and threw the record into the wall like a frisbee, shattering it. I told her she would have to reimburse me for the hefty $4 I paid for it, and she actually did.

age 12 or so (93?) went to stinkweeds (in mesa back then) and purchased... er...
green day - 1,000 Smoothed Out/Slappy Hours
(i still find "rest" to be an easy song to relate to.)
and despite billie armstrong recently quoted as saying "we want our band to be the biggest band in the world!" (while he wiped the glitter, black eyeliner and eyeshadow off his face)
i still have a soft spot en mi corazon for 1000/Smoothed... and Kerplunk!
and...
an afghan whigs single (luckily i had an older brother who turned me on to some good music,
and I'm very greatful to him for that one!)
very memorable day for me!
and thank you kimber!

i rocked the authentic he-man "masters of the universe" record on that record player! We had a Fisher Price turntable too. I guess the first record we really had was the muppet album where they do a song for each letter. "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me"...

we are the masters of the universe..
and we will fight to the end...
and we will never give in..
to the evil of skeletor...
it pumped me up (like peter cetera or survivor's "eye of the tiger")
it made me wanna do karate moves/jumping jacks/punch my brother/cycling/pumping iron...

The first album I bought, however, was Short Dog's In the House by Too Short (edited version). I purchased this at a garage sale thinking I might have something in common with someone "too short". It had beeps over all the curses.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.
