it hasn't even been a full week since he announced governor palin would be his running mate, but we've already been treated to so much. the pregnant unwed teen daughter, the hiring of a defense attorney for her alleged illegal firing of a state employee, the comical realization that two years ago she was the mayor of a town of 6000 people. what else will we find out as the election draws near? i haven't been this excited about the potential for political mudslinging in years!

in all seriousness, is anyone else waiting for him to jump out from behind a tree and say "gotcha! my real VP choice is tom ridge!"

OOOOOOOOH BURRRRRRNN!

"Um, hi there Mrs Palin. Would you like to try and change my vote? Can you show me how to use the Rhythm Method? You see I'm a Democrat and I've always just used condoms..."

speechless.

also, not that we needed more proof that mccain is a fucking idiot, but here you go.

When a reporter asked McCain whether he thought contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV, he replied: "You've stumped me."

McCain might be a douchebag but he isn't Hitler - FUCK MADONNA.

I sure think that's a low standard, y'know, to have, like saying at least he ain't OurPieOh. The nice thing about the leader of the free world, is that except for their effect on our public image, and a couple of pet projects, they don't seem to have much real impact on our lives. Getting in good touch with our mayors, congreessional reps and governors may smooth out any actual complaints that effect us directly. Who are those people, I wonder?

Speaking of which, today til 7pm is the Primary Election in Phoenix! If you are a registered voter, you can vote in either parties' primaries (just ask for the ballot for whatever party's primary you want to vote in).
You must show 2 forms of identification and go to your assigned polling place. For more info you can check Phoenix's Voting at the Polls page.

I agree that it is the local elections that truly make a difference. Afterall, politicians have to start somewhere right? Unfortunately not a lot of people vote in the primary or local elections, but fortunately if you do vote, your vote has a lot more power in deciding what types of politicians run our local and state governments and who represents us in Washington.

This election - running for re-election is our favorite sheriff- Joe Arpaio - running against him is Dan Saban and running for re-election is Ed Pastor, Ken Cheuvront, David Lujan, and Kyrsten Sinema (in my downtown district at least).

All of the above (except the sheriff candidates) are endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona: Check it before you wreck it!

Honest to God, I don't know if this is real or not. Seriously. Help me out. I wouldn't be surprised.

And just for shits and giggles (and because it is hurricane season):

Maybe he should run for president of comedy instead.

Photoshop. Just saying. There's plenty of other things to disqualify Palin as a legit VP candidate (troopergate), but that picture isn't real.

Jackie O is a true presence in politics. Please Jackie, tell us what you know about our Mayor (amazing dude), our Reps, Our Guvna (in Birmingham they luv the guvna), Our Guvnah was the first(political) woman that I could feel pure confidence and intelligence from. I felt like she would have been the best choice for the Obama V.P., Phil Gordon stands without backing, against viscious power, we are lucky we have soul in Phx. Az.
Really place your selves in these positions and imagine the types of pressures, ranging from eternal riches to the untimely ends of your loved ones lives, and then judge them according to what actually seems possible, that they might accomplish. I know the Shizzmos are deep, but are they realistic?

DUDE!!!! What an ASSHOLE

I remember reading that ...

As a sidenote, I have to point out that as much as we think of H. Ross Perot as a weirdo now, he paid for Carol McCain's medical expenses while she kept her accident under wraps while McCain was captured. Although, yeah, he could afford it even back then - that to me is still pretty touching.

re: Bristol Palin's pregnancy - I pretty much believe that it should be a non-issue and kept a private family matter, but for any of the right-wing folks that are wondering why it's been brought up, they only have themselves to blame really.

From believing that they have proprietary rights to the idea of family values while pushing abstinence-only sex-ed, they've set themselves up for the fall every time something like this happens. Yes, these things happen to American families as Republican PR folks have gotten used to saying, but it's that reason that makes abstinence-only sex-ed such a failure.

Bristol Palin is really lucky - she's an expectant mother who is lucky enough to have a supportive family around her. I truly hope everything works out for her; I have no idea why it wouldn't.

On the other hand, there are so many unwed, pregnant teens that don't get have that kind of support (or feel that they will). They're told by pro-life folks that keeping the kid is the way to go, but then those same folks are pretty vehement at making life hard for single mothers that need help.

yeah i have to say that Palin's daughter's pregnancy is pretty much a non-issue for me (though that's to be expected when you have parents that do not believe in informing you about what happens when you have unprotected sex).

It does make me laugh at the fact that after all of McCain's pandering to the religious right wing, he chooses a VP candidate who has a daughter who got pregnant out of "wedlock" which is a super no no in the religious right wing world (they do make exceptions for their own mistakes, but when it's someone not affiliated with their views, then it is immoral and all that is wrong with America). I wonder how many voters they will lose because of that.

anyways she'll be fine. she lives in alaska, ain't no thing.

And the fact that Palin's husband got a DUI in the 80s (or registered to a 3rd independent party in Alaska in 2000) doesn't bother me either....it was the 80s, it was Alaska, who hasn't gotten a DUI or known someone who has?

All i care about are the issues and the McCain/Palin ticket does not support a majority of the issues that i would like to see supported in the white house.

but it is a pretty ironic (and funny) twist of fate.

Your 17 year old daughter's pregnancy isn't an issue, but yours and your party's rampant hypocrisy is.

The party system has dissintegrated, party members are figuring out whether they are left right or center. I like people that really believe stuff. Clinton and Reagan were the cooolest Presidents while I was alive, Carter was squishy, Nixon was a criminal, Bush was a puppet, Barack will define himself while he is in office because if a brutha sucks in the White House, he will have to live with it for at least 30 years, McCain will induce Heart Attack uppon innaugeration (sp?).
