BrickChair and Rainbow Tribe were the first bands I saw in phoenix who opened up for 311 back in 94 or 95. I was still living in New Mexico at the time. One foot in the Grave was around before that, there was also the Phunk Junkeez.

First Local band I remember playing with was either Mr. Pink or Fluidrive,

I haven't heard anyone talk about Jimmy Eat World or Trunk Federation.

Big Poppa, what was that band that sounded like 311 but had a singer who played bass? Their drummer went on to play with the Phunk Junkeez and is Cameo Hills brother. Maria Vasset booked shows for them as well as Jesus Chrysler SuperCar

That would be Yoko Love with Josh on Bass and Andy on guitar. Andy played with Clyde (Mr. Pink) for awhile. I remember when Rainbow Tribe practiced over by Golfland along with Mischief and Inferno.

hmm well long ago in the dark ages i was roomates with the leader of figurehead (who shall remain unnamed). he had a girlfriend who left him for a while & hung out with a band called 'crimedog'. she got back together with him & we used to tease her about this 'crimedog' band. later on i became friends with the Less Pain Forever guys (then it was Les Payne) & found out that Crimedog was an early band these guys were in. ah the incestuous nature of the "scene". lol. so - figureheard became figurehead lite (which evenutally donald & montoya played one show in) .... & also crimedog became lush budget presents the les payne product.

also thread related somewhat, when i was in a band in nebraska, 311 was considered our 'competition'. then they moved to california and became big stars. haha.

Probably the 1st musician I met in Phoenix was Mike Red .... who at the time at a lot of hair (!) and was singing for an industrial band.

i played in Sam the Butcher which had the bass player from the Thundercats in it towards the end. (Ryan Stemen) He Also played in The Wipers in Europe for a spell...until GregSage tried to sex him up. We also played Tempe Bowl with the PostToaties several times. Those were great shows. Music sounded better back then.

DUDE! i also played alot of shows with sam the butcher and post toasties at the Tempe bowl. how about the dirt bike kids?

I remember seeing Brick Chair at Long Wongs in the early 90's. They had a chick singer, yes?

Also... the singer for my band Art for Starters was the singer for Before Braille, and before that he was the DANCER for Jesus Chrysler Supercar. He was the one in the helmet of some sort...

also, my first band, Safehouse, played our first show with a band called Grimace, which was Tom and Rick from Jimmy Eat World before JEW got together. JEW then started playing shows with us when Jims till had High school hair. (long on top and back pulled back and the sides shaved)

ALSO, i think i saw Mr Pink with Avail and The Offspring at Street Survivors down in Phx on VanBuren... Was that them?

No one so far has mentioned ONE.

Jamal, Shazad, Shamsie and John O'Rielly jr. Can't remember the other guitar players name.

Shazad is probably most famous at this time. He plays with Mark Ribot.

I also liked Dish, who then changed their name to Verona. Then they split up and Tim started Gloritone and Andy started Sauce, which then became 9volt.

I totally forgot about the dancer. I remember him in a chicken suit on one occasion.

Yes don't forget about One either. Shazad is in Pure Horsehair with Garrett Devoe, not to metion 2 foot yard with Karla Kilstead.

What about Tolerance, they were another Maria Vassett band too.

I'd have to ask Robin if Mr. Pink played that show or not. It's too long ago and I can't remember
