L'Atelier Joel Robuchon, Las Vegas
OMG fucking robuchon! what did you eat there?
and don't tell me you've eaten at the french laundry
or else i might have to kill out of jealousy.
everytime i go back home i have to eat here a couple of times so fucking good!
au pied de cochon! never been, but heard great things about it. my parents went to montreal last year and went there.
so l'atelier is a little different than the robuchon dining room. it's sort of like a sushi bar, where you sit up at a counter around the kitchen. it's supposed to be his "small plates" restaurant, so the concept is that you can go and get 3 items instead of one main meal. they also have a tasting menu, so of course i did that. i don't remember every course off the top of my head (i actually have notes at home, though), but there were some standouts.
there was a langoustine carpaccio, which was particularly good. one of the earlier courses was an egg custard with mushrooms (the closest comparison would be that it was a very buttery mushroom omlete, but that's not even coming close to doing it justice) and it was served in a martini glass.
my main course was a seared duck breast - i remember the sauce being ridiculously good. oh, and the desserts were straight up retarded. so good it made me angry.
we went to vegas about a year and a half ago (which is when i ate there) for the sole purpose of eating at a bunch of really good restaurants and doing nothing else. we also ate at
daniel boloud, which was good, but not as good as we expected. i had a $35 burger there, which i felt was something i needed to do if for no other reason than to say i ate a $35 burger. the view, though, was totally worth it.
oh, and no, never been to french laundry. tried to get reservations and were denied.
