yeah, today was full of horrible referee calls. england not allowed a goal that was CLEARLY over the line and argentina allowed a goal that was CLEARLY offsides.....

they need to at least put in the goal line tech like in hockey.

but allowed or disallowed, it wouldn't have mattered, germany would've still spanked england and argentina would've still spanked mexico.

I was at a Conference this weekend in Palm Springs. We had a meeting right when the US Ghana game started. I left early to watch the end of it. Imagine being surrounded by a shit load of white people staring at 5 big screen TVs in a hotel lobby pretending to like football. Once the US lost that game most Americans aren't going to give two shits about football until the next World Cup while millions of West Africans were screaming at the top of their lungs.

I think they could easily do this, but I believe they don't do it to make everything feel more "authentic" and "Human". The referee errors add to the drama and unpredictable nature of the game.
It sucks to be on the receiving end of an error, but yeah, I dunno. *shrug*

when multiple games (at least 4 off the top of my head, i'm sure there are more) in the biggest tournament of your sport feature disallowed goals or non-goals because of human error, and those judgments directly impact the outcome of the game, then your sport needs fixing. not to mention the complete arbitrary nature of when yellow/red cards and extra time are awarded. i'm not watching because i'm interested in the referee, FIFA, i'm watching because i'd like to see who wins between the two teams in a fair contest. fortunately, i won't have to put up with your crap for 4 more years because i'm certainly not getting on board with a sport as pointless as soccer until the next world cup.

yeah but then it's a big 'ol slippery slope that leads to football becoming american football where the games are 3 hours long because of all of the commercials. soccer doesn't have commercials. oh wait, they wear their commercials on their jerseys.

called it. brazil won, netherlands won, and today spain played a good game against portugal. david villa is sick.

i'm excited about friday, i get to watch netherlands play brazil, i love oranje, i hope they win, but they ARE playing BRAZIL. so we'll see.

then uruguay/ghana, i hope uruguay destroys ghana
