Beginning of Edwards' closing statements: "I'd liek to thank the Vice President for being here today, and I'd like to thank you, Gwen(?)..."

Beginning of Cheney's closing statements: "Well, I'd liek to thank you, Gwen(?)..."
What an ass!

Cheney seemed like an evil overlord

Edwards seemed....less evil?

Not as many sparks in this debate; kinda boring.

John Stewart put it best on the Daily Show, he said something to the effect of, "Dick Cheney unhinged his jaw an proceeded to swallow John Edwards whole." I find that statement to be accurate in that Cheney seemed better organized and smarter, but at the same time was a chilling and evil bastard.

I listened to the debates on the radio. Cheney won. Edwards smacked him on the gay marriage and Israel issues though.

Question: How is calling Cheney Evil different from Bush calling Hussein Evil or labelling certain countries (N. Korea, Iran, Syria, etc...) as being Evil?

Disclaimer: I do not support Bush/Cheney. I marginally support Kerry/Edwards based on the fact that they are Not Bush.

how did he smack cheney on the gay marriage issue?

it would be my assumption that cheney clearly does not agree with bush or kerry on the issue, and since he does not agree with "his president" THE BUSH, i'd say that cheney elected to pretty much shut his mouth about the issue.....................................

just my opinion

I agree. I don't think Cheney agrees with THE BUSH on the gay marriage issue, so he kept his mouth shut, he didn't respond in any way. It made Cheney look like he was just going along with what The President says, even if it means discriminating against a family member. Everyone tuned in saw this. Wouldn't that count as a smack?

very good point, i guess i just keep coming back to what a fucking knob i thought edwards was for saying over and over how kerry and himself oppose gay marriage and believe that is only meant for a man and women...........those comments made him, in my opinion, look far worse than cheney on that issue.........

1) This is an internet message board, not a speech broadcast across the world and carefully watched by world governments.

2) John was saying that Cheney came across as "evil," not that he actually is.

3) A better word to use would have been "dick," "jerk," "asshole," etc. Does he seem like the kind of guy you'd want to square off with or even be around? He just seems really mean-spirited.

The fact that he's DICK alone doesn't mean you shouldn't vote for him, but it's still worth pointing out.

Those are all valid points, but the point behind my comment was the fact that calling someone 'Evil' invokes an emotional response in the reader. Does he come across as a prick? Sure. Do I agree with his administration's ploicies? Not in the slightest. Calling someone Evil is a little childish.

It's just an example of people using loaded words to sway people's opinions.

Maybe it's just a hangup I have, but when people see things in a black/white, good/evil, or liberal/conservative manner it bugs the crap out of me. It's like the fear vs. love scene of Donnie Darko. By looking at the world in that light, you are turning human beings into binary creatures and forgetting about everything in between the extremes. There are no purely bad or purely good people. Everyone has done and will do good and bad things in their life.

I chose the word evil because he reminded me of a villain in a bad movie, just without all the creepy laughter.

I agree with the points you made about good/evil, etc. By saying Cheney seemed evil I did not mean to imply that Edwards seemed good.

sure cheney might have seemed like he knew his facts and he certainly does come across as more than competent...

but i simply don't believe a word he says. he is constantly deliberately lying to the american public.

and he's evil....
