I'm around. I've just been really busy, mostly with work.

Yeah, I don't think the Chimay will be ready to go by next weekend, but I'm sure we'll do some damage to it nonetheless. I'll give John a bottle or two to take back for the other Lipferts. I got fairly rocked off drinking half a bottle (along with a few of Nick's brew) of the stuff warm and flat, which means it could be very dangerous when it's cold and carbonated. Then again, maybe no one else will like it, which will mean more for me.

Nick's citrus brew was quite tasty. Without a side by side comparision, it really tasted like a Sam Adams or Harpoon summer ale. Not bad at all.

Yep, I'm hooked. How can you resist mass quantities of tasty beery goodness?

I took one for the team. No one else was going to drink them.

Actually there are still 2 in the fridge. I should bring them to NY and share the bran.

I believe there are an assortment of herbal beers. No idea how good they are though...I'll try one once I become better with normal ones :)

If this was Germany, then the answer would be hell no, you can't make a beer with herbs in it, because of a 500 year old law still in effect.

"Furthermore, we wish to emphasize that in future in all cities, markets and in the country, the only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be Barley, Hops and Water. Whosoever knowingly disregards or transgresses upon this ordinance, shall be punished by the Court authorities' confiscating such barrels of beer, without fail."

That said, here in America we can brew beer with anything, including raw chicken parts. I'm not kidding. Gotta find that recipe and post it.

would it be possible to make beer with tea?

i'm thinking you could just steep a bunch of tea instead of grains at the beginning, then add the malt and hops like you normally would.

given the millions of different tea varieties/variations, i'd think you could come up with some fairly interesting brews.

Well, given the coffee brew Mike and I did several years ago, tea would be something you would want to steep after the boil. If you basically make tea by steeping before the boil, then boil it for an hour, your flavors are going to either change or disappear. Either that or you could make some really strong tea and add it to the fermenter when bringing your final level up to 5 gallons. Never thought about it, though. On a side note the japanese restaurant up the street from my work has green tea ice cream.

Ok, john's post made me curious.. Found a few interesting articles/sites in my search.

1) Carbonation Calculator

2) Gluten Free Beer Recipe

3) Couldn't find a chicken brew recipe but this is still interesting.. Chicken Beer
