It makes me want to smoke.....it looks so cool when the actors on the tv do it!

But the womanizing and dog-eat-dog business decisions are oh ok?

Well, at least they aren't wearing flip flops!

well i only saw one episode so i don't know too much about the show. But he did cheat on his wife in the episode.

i was gonna check out the first season more to see whether i was gonna say the female characters lacked depth. I know that the writer of the show also wrote for The Sopranos, which i thought was a really interesting show for men to watch because they had interesting male characters to follow/align to, but really was not a cool show in terms of female characters and the depictions of raping and killing women.

which is why i was a little hesitant to watch Mad Men but it was on last night and I thought I'd give it a whirl.
I am gonna check it out more before i have a say on it.

They all cheat on all their wives in every episode.

Mad Men is overrated.

While it has stuff going for it (costume/set design, and.... I don't know - ask a fan), it's pretty hollow/shallow/empty. The characters are one dimensional and obnoxious. The writing is obnoxious ("Look how stupid/obnoxious/sexist/smoky/promiscuous we were in the '60s!"). They beat you over the head with the stuff instead of just using subtle details/writing/etc.

I would not hold out any hope for some kind of grand social commentary.

But this is only after disc one, season one. Maybe it gets better. I don't know.

It's just reached that point for me where the hype has surpassed the show. I'm putting an end to that now.

EDIT: In all fairness to people that are fans of the show, it may very well be good. It's just that I watched this right before I got sucked into The Wire, which is one of the best shows ever made ever, so maybe that's why I'm all butt hurt about it - it pales in comparison. Especially considering how little The Wire has apparently been appreciated by the very same people heaping praise on Mad Men

Anyways, just my opinion. Just for today. Tomorrow might be different. Your mileage may vary.

currently watching the trailer park boys

I'm only two and a half episodes in, but I'm really digging this.

Lahey: Why don't you get a life, Rick? Why don't you go to community college like Julian here? Hey! I got a good idea! You could teach Living In A Car and Growing Dope 101!
Ricky: And you could teach How To Get Drunk, Get Fired From The Police Force, Become A Lousy Trailer Park Supervisor That Sucks, Hangs Around With A Fucking Idiot That Doesn't Wear A Shirt And Looks Like A Dick But Thinks He Looks Good 101.

I saw this yesterday and really liked it. I like how the tightrope comes to symbolize so many different things for the people involved. When I saw it I was all "wow, dreams!"

I watched this movie Darkon. It was interesting. It kind of made LARPing a little less nerdy and more understandable in my eyes.

Saturday was spent watching season 2 of the Venture Bros, series 2 of Spaced.....twice (once without commentary, once with. I didn't want it to end) and 4 hours of Dexter season 2 (something everyone should watch).

Yes, it was a hangover day.

The Simpsons episode when Homer gets a gun. Easily a top 10 Simpsons episode....

Posted Image

But this gun had a hold on me. I felt this incredible surge of power, like God must feel when he's holding a gun.

First Person - Series from Errol Morris ("The Fog of War" - also awesome...) where he interviews lots of cool people who are passionate about their shit, with his Interrotron - "a camera device he invented to maintain continuous eye contact with his subjects". I was expecting some kind of electric chair looking mother fucker, maybe with spikes and shit, but it's basically just a TV in front of his subject, with a camera on top, and he's on the TV asking the questions.

I don't know, I wasn't very enthused when I got it from netflix either, but I finally threw it in and it's *awesome*. Way better than I thought it could possibly be.

I'm watching Balls of Fury because MLB wouldn't dream of giving me a free baseball game to watch today on a holiday or anything.
