Step Brothers - far better than Semi-Pro, and probably definitely better than Talledega Nights, but still no Anchorman. I cried from laughing more than a couple of times, but I was pretty lit, so...

Thanks to a flattering review from the Onion AV Club, I just picked up "Spaced: The Complete Series", starring Simon Pegg and directed by Edgar Wright (both of "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" fame).

Some quotes on the box:

"Spaced is so damn good I'm seriously honored to be quoted on the DVD cover." --Matt Stone

"Watching Spaced is kinda like watching a Kevin Smith film if Kevin Smith had any real talent." --Kevin Smith

"I laughed hard and I hate comedy." --Judd Apatow

"The one, the only...Spaced. Accept no substitute" --Quentin Tarantino

I. cannot. wait.

Yeah, I had to ask someone that was working there because I couldn't find it either. They had a bunch in the back. I'm sure they were waiting until they had vacant shelf space from the dozens of copies of American Pie....

It was $40 at Best Buy. If you can find it somewhere else for a comparable price, stick it to the man!

Spaced is at the top of my Netflix queue.

Problem is, the words "Very Long Wait" are next to it. :(

Same here - but my need for instant gratification took hold and I just sprung for it instead of waiting. Plus, I didn't want it cutting into the progress I've been making with "The Wire".

Maybe you'll get lucky - sometimes "Very Long Wait" just means they'll ship it from another shipping center across the country. But seeing as this just came out last week (I think), it's unfortunately entirely possible that all those people that got it first are sitting on it. Bastards.

X-Files I Want To Believe. Matt and I went to see this Tues night. I was VERY excited to see it, but was a little let-down. SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT read below if you don't want to see plot points about the movie.

I would have rather seen a "monster" storyline, rather than the psychic-bordering-on-not-even-supernatural-at-all story they used. I also thought it needed more humor, more lightness and more fun. It was kind of a drag. As far as psychic stories go, they did it so well (and so much more wittily) with Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose that I am surprised that they even went in that direction. CBFR being one of the best x-files eps ever, in my opinion. I knew it wasn't a story that focused on the mythology of the series, so I really was expecting something more lighthearted and fast-paced. Episodes like Bad Blood, Small Potatoes, Hollywood AD, Humbug, Jose Chung's From Outer Space, and the Dreamland episodes are all great examples of how good a stand-alone X-Files ep could be, and that is kind of what I was hoping for with the new movie. I especially thought. too, that the scene where Scully was all harping on Mulder about "your sister is dead, you can't save her," was really forced and didn't fit into the movie at all.
OK, that is my rant for the night.
