the first phx bands i saw were Recycled Thoughts, which was members of Bored to Death, and the drummer, years later became a friend of mine and played in a band called Roped That Rescue with me briefly and we also played together in a Tucson band called Invisible City--take that silly magazine... Dave Norwood also played in the Ropes that Rescue band. He played in Babbitry, Atlas (with ex Primitive Tribes), Chocolate Laser, among others before that and Seven Storey Mountain, after, and now plays in Austin, in The Gary.
Then I saw Lyburnum, whose lineage has been pretty well documented, I think. And Temper Tantrum, who, members of I would see for a long time.

some cool stuff here

I spoke with JRC and Steph lastnight and they have some cool ideas.

Great information so far!

Does anyone know if there are certain rules in how one puts this stuff together, kind of like how there is MLA and APA style formatting for text?

Not sure if there are rules, however, 5 Rue Christine Label has a cool way to document bands/lineage/pedigrees online, like this:
http://ww.5rc.com/ba...erofarmageddon/

Also, band to band has a neat mapping/cluster modeling function:
http://bandtoband.co...arch&BandId=525

Damn, Arp... good one. Counterpunch had Jesse Everhardt, who went on to be in every single Phx band ever...among them: Blofiche (sp?), Horace Pinker, Safehouse, Seven Storey, Tickertape Parade... Don't forget about Richard Cranium in there with the Lyburnum folks, too...playing shows at the Eagle Transportation warehouse.

Also, a member of counterpunch now plays in Hexaclops I believe.

band to band has good rules on what defines a band and it's members.

don't know of any style formatting, but here's a data collection suggestion:

start a spreadsheet with bands across the top, individuals down the left side. put a 1 or an X in the matrix where the individual participated in the band. Also might be a good idea to include some data on the band (when/where).

the matrix itself won't be much to look at, but we can drop that into some software (UCINET is one option) that will convert that table into whatever visual format we want to see.

it'll look more like a social network than a family tree, but I think that's probably more appropriate in this case anyway... I can build a small example if it's worth the trouble?

NOTE that this is essentially what's working in the background of the bandtoband that arp linked to below.

All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

Stymie: 1991, I played guitar for a band, with Daryl on drums (who later played/sang in Hupscratch, Daryl Scarer, The Power of Positive Thinking, Turn Back, O Man), Bryan on Bass (Chuck Taylor All Stars, Everlasting) and a couple other guys. We played at Mason Jar for Franco. First real show was with Rice and Bumblescrump.

And so that would be my "band" connection to you since Bryan played in the Lemmings later. Had no idea Daryl was also in that band.

Probably one of the 'older' Phoenix bands/musicians around would be Bruce Connole who headed up the Revenants & before that they were the Suicide Kings. Way before that (& during the heroin phase?) he was in an 80s new wave sort of band called The Jetzons.

I remember when Fucking Thunder tried to change their name to BullyRag because John Quintos (who is now in a band with BeefStew and Tre from Safehouse) said his mom didn't like the fact that they had the word FUCK in their name... So from then on out on flyers, they were always referred to as Bullyrag AKA Fucking Thunder. Best band name ever.

this sounds like it could be huge, but pretty amazing.

it would be neat if there was some way to have audio samples of each band, if they could be supplied. (for a web version perhaps?)

maybe that's a little two ambitious? perhaps if there was some good way to collectively assemble the data in a wikipedia fashion, but then also have the data aggregate to make a neat flow chart.

I missed a lot of this stuff having moved here in 98 and not playing any real shows until 2000. that graphic that donald posted sums up most of my involvement in the family tree, except now Christine and I are tied to Stew who was in the Real Diffs Deluxe whose bass player was Ryan Kennedy who is now in Ruben's Accomplice. Also, I was in Minibosses for a while and Aaron is in the Revenge which has a couple people from steretyperider and many other bands.

ahhaaha

Ok, so I was in the winners and Fatigo AND also stew played drums in life like hair, which links in Dan as well who is also in Fatigo.

somebody needs to draw a new tree.

fatigo an vin fiz might be special projects on their own, this work may need to be subcontracted to a 3rd world country.

Jesse and Dan are also tied to Employee of the Moth with Jacob Dang, who unfortunately is not playing music in any band, but wanted to add that in there.

I'm now playing in a band called Caldera which is the old Safehouse singer/bassist Tre Beaton which is tied to Chad M. and John Quintos who used to play in Bully Rag and Fucking Thunder.
Also, Ryan Kennedy played keyboards for Caldera for a minute before moving last month to Springfield, MO. Ryan was also in Pine Wyatt and Aquanaut drinks coffee and played in Go Big Casino with many other great musicians like Robin Vining.

I also played in El Oso Negro with "Pedal Steel" Matt (don't know his last name), MOnique (newbie) and Ian Stupar, who was in.... Braid?? Help me out people.

It's not Braid. That's the band that came after Hey Mercedes. It's Fightshy!

What about Temper Tantrum? Was Shortbus local?
Polyester Apple Jazz also had the old drummer from Bionic Jive, Chris Elsner who is now doing Vocaine and American Kill Theory.

That's what I get for posting before getting to the 5th page. Chad you are the man... and yes you are old. Sorry. You still got it though brotha. You're like Yoda. I'm still a Skywalker in training.

I will stop posting anymore until I read all messages. Seems like most everything is covered.

Geoff Orr played in Employee of the Moth and Harcuvar and before that he played in Westwood high Jazz band with me, mothrock and Jacob Dang. Also he played with I ate the Sand box (whcih I think was former J.E.W. members). Geoff also played drums a short time with Spaceman Spiff I beleive...

Jesse (Mothrock) and I played in a band called Syanide Phive and beofre that I played with Corporate Assualt (a metalurgy band)....

One of the first local bands I remember seeing was Chula with Kristi Wimmer, Yolanda, and some others (names escape me). Kristi was also in Bella and now in Robot Tank

I also saw No Knife at the Argo back in the day
