Favorite Place to see a band

i hate leaving the little bubble of awesomeness that is downtown phx for the littler bubble of less awesomeness that is temep. i like to drink and smoke weed and get fucked up. i like to avoid getting DUIs or killing people with my car. so i ride my bike to see shows or take the light rail if applicable or hitch a ride (RIAL ima hit u up). Fuck risking getting a DUI to see some shitty bands at the Yucca (though i do love it). also i'm not going to spend $20-45 on a cab ride to see a show in tempe.
i'll ride my bike pretty far for a good time but i dont see a lot of tempe peeps in phx seeing shows or a lot of phx peeps in tempe seeing shows. just how it is.
none of this means i don't "support" bands. it just means we live in a big fucking city and shit is spread out and public trans blows chunks and i like drugs.

Fucking + 1 Jacki.
I like to go out like the next guy, but I am at the point where it's just not an option to get all fucked up and drive.
Unfortunately, I do not get out to see shows as often as I'd like anymore. More often than not, when I do go to a show, I am likely playing.
With work, a kid, a girlfriend, a handful of bands I play in, it's not easy to go out. I'm fucking tired and getting old.
Plus, I like my house and it's probably my favorite bar and venue right now cuz my jam room/studio is getting all pimped out and workable and shit.
Hmm, maybe it's almost time for a house party at my place.
On topic:
hollywood alley
trunk space
new long wongs
rogue (sounded great the last show I was at recently)
Hot Licks in bisbee sounds great
Monte Vista in flag
revolver (outside)
I miss:
emerald lounge/ruby room
old long wongs
lucky dragon
paper heart

I go to shows no matter where they are if there is a band i wanna see.
I dont care where in the valley it might be.
but is there a place where your butt puckers a little when you see there is a show there? All the places you listed earlier?

Bands make my butt pucker not venues.
If I had to say I think maybe the Tribe. That house rules and has been around for years! Its in phoenix and I live in Tempe. OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i loved shows at the vault. i loved em at mesa skatepark. going to the nile was always kind of a drag. i hate a black room with hot colored lights. when it was upstairs that was cool. or downstairs was okay.
i loved playing at holgas. i hate playing outside, it's one of my big peeves, but i loved it.
i feel totally privileged every time i've gotten to play trunk space.
modified was super awesome at first but at some point, it turned, and the couple times i went to shows there after that point, i didn't like it.
and i like playing shitty bars. you know who you are. i don't know what it is about it- there's no pressure. i know it's not 'punk' but i just love playing shitty bars.
i love seeing shows at congress and i'm extremely excited to play there (thanks billy!) but push comes to shove, i love seeing shows at solar culture and i think it's probably all in all the best place in arizona for live music.
house shows! nothing beats it. chad's house in tempe was really fun. i like the tribe house. i like playing anywhere that's not a 'club'. tempe bowl was AWESOME! and i love playing in churches. the sound is always awesome and it just looks cool. especially if the pews are still there and stuff.
i feel like i'm definitely forgetting something. i hate playing outside. did i mention that?

my friend jp's parents used to own this bowling alley that they would let him set up shows at in golden colorado, saw small 23 there, christie front drive, john cougar concentration camp there
my friend jason bought a set of cheerleading stands and they set the bands up on the lanes so you could bowl next to them while they played.
which reminds me of tempe bowl that was a fun place
Wow dude, live in the past much? A bunch of places in Denver where you haven't lived in over 10 years and this:the old long wongs on mill
the farmer house
modified
Do you have a time machine nobody knows about.
As for in the now kind of places?
Sweets and Beats
Sound Kontrol
Judy
Sweets and Beats is the best! There is something about that room, maybe the sweets.......and the beats?

hilarious. i grew in north phoenix west side and we'd have to drive to tempe, at least, to see any live music. first it was chandler at the vault. then mesa skatepark. we drove to tucson to see jawbreaker. we felt blessed. i say 'we' because i didn't learn to drive till i was 25. "i don't like driving to tempe from downtown phoenix." hilarious. boo hoo. i've rode my bike farther than that.
well if we're going to pull out our dicks and measure how far we had to drive to see a show when we were growing up, then i've got you beaten severely. i spent my formative years in sedona, so i had to drive to phoenix to see shows. and this was pre-internet and we didn't have mtv or local record stores, so i didn't even fucking know about house shows in flagstaff. the only alternative was seeing major lingo play at spook hall in jerome. so there. take your west side to tempe drive and put it in your butthole. i didn't even have a high school to go to in my town, so i drove 40 minutes each way to fucking cottonwood. are you hearing me? cottonwood. i've spent more time in a car than anybody else on the planet*, so i'm done driving and i don't even feel a little bit bad about it.
on the flip side neil young played at jazz on the rocks when i was in high school and it was badass.
* i can not prove this.
p.s. hi bobby!

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

nowadays i'm not sure i have a favorite place. maybe the rhythm room, but even there it seems the vocals never really cut through.
however there are places i *like* seeing music a whole lot. trunkspace. outside/inside revolver records. yucca tap room. ice house tavern. i can't really complain too much, these are places that support indie music & aren't looking to make huge bucks off commercial bands.

find me any thread on this website that doesn't turn into complaining, name dropping, or whining. can't be done. i'm just doing my part to uphold the standard.
plus i already mentioned the venues i like(d), so what else is left?
how about places that i'd LOVE to see a show, like that little boxing gym across from bikini lounge? oh, or that weird little amphitheater built into the rocks right on mcdowell road by the zoo. know where i'm talking about?
