Having been gone for 2 weeks, there's no way I can read all this at once and have any hope of digesting it. However, I do want to throw my opinions into the mix because there are a lot of things written that bother me.
The first thing I'd like to say is that your vote is what you want it to be. I have no problem with people voting based on principle or using the vote as an anti-vote. Understanding how your vote impacts things is an important part of voting. As long as we have an electoral college system and other rules surrounding political parties and funding, you should cast your vote with that in mind. If you want to vote for the candidate you like best, fine. If you want to vote for a candidate in hopes that a 3rd party gets more federal support, fine. If you want to vote for a guy because you fear the likely opponent, also fine. A vote is your expression and the only rules you have to follow are the ones written by Congress.
Point 2, the lesser of 2 evils arguement and the 2 party system in general is an overblown complaint. There will never be a party or a candidate that I agree with on 100% of the issues. We are all individuals and have individual ideas. The fact is that you have to settle at some point. By and large, the 2 party system covers a wide representation of most people's stances on issues. Sometimes it is frustrating to make that call, but at some point everyone has to settle on what will be for the greater good. There's this whole backlash out there these days that I sometimes feel like I'm judged for being a registered democrat. I think it's all overblown.
Point 3, Kerry will be a force for change if elected. There are issues and stances that Kerry has that I don't agree with and wish would be different. However, in my opinion he has the best track record for creating positive change in the current system of any of the 3 candidates. There were many stances that Bill Clinton had/has that I do not support (capital punishment, dishonesty, etc). However, in his 8 years in office he did a great deal to create new social programs, resurrect the economy, fight terrorism, negotitate international peace treaties, help the poor, educational funding, and many other things. You don't have to be perfect to be a good president. I believe Kerry has the ability to do a lot of good, or at the least undo a lot of bad of the past 4 years.
